Fund Raising Ceilidh
Anne Paterson, Secretary of Luss (Loch Lomond) Highland Gathering, said: "It was a great evening, mixing tradition and nostalgia with contemporary fun, even some Gangnam style ceilidh! A very big thank you must go to Stuart and his band who really made the night, and to everyone at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for the use of their facilities and their efficient and friendly service. Thanks also go to everyone who came along to support the Gathering, helping us raise much needed funds."
Continuing a tradition dating back more than 130 years, Luss (Loch Lomond) Highland Gathering takes place on Saturday 6th of July, with an array of traditional 'Highland Heavy' events, athletics and cycling competitions, alongside highland dancing and bagpipe contests. Each year, it attracts thousands of visitors to the picturesque village of Luss on Loch Lomond.
Now, for 2013, visitors will be able to arrive by ferry, transported by special sailings across Loch Lomond on special 'Gathering' sailings by Cruise Loch Lomond and Sweeney's Cruises, with half price games entry for ferry passengers.
A similar scheme was launched last year, but as the 2012 Gathering was cancelled due to exceptionally poor weather, 2013 will be the first time visitors to the games will be so encouraged to arrive by water, linking communities across the loch. Secretary Anne Paterson continues: "Historically, Luss Gathering has always attracted people from across all of Loch Lomond's communities. The ferries and waterbus enable those who live across the water to join us for the day, arriving in style, missing the traffic and saving half price at the gate."
